With over 60 animals and birds in our compound, we work hard but are also very blessed with their unique qualities and the sounds that waft in the background. Miniature horses, 3 sizes of donkeys, Tibetan yak, camels, miniature Brahma family, Watusi cattle, zebra, llama, 4-horned ram, emus, sulcata tortoises, macaws, rosellas, and who knows what will be around the corner. Kenya, our zebra - how do you explain to an 8 year old blind boy, what is light, what are stripes? Our beloved Kenya allows Michael to feel of her eyes, mouth and ears. She's the perfect therapy zebra, the only one in the world.
Voodoo, our Watusi, whose father is the largest horned bull in the Guinness Book of World Records, with a 41" circumference. Voodoo's power and strength transfers to our students. In Africa, they trade them for wives. These cattle of kings are the largest horned cattle in the world. Both Kenya and Voodoo were a gift from Duane and Kolene Gilbert of the Gilbert's Bar G Ranch in Castle Dale, Utah, one of the leading breeders of zebras and Watusi cattle. Kubla, the world's most perceptive therapy bactrian camel. Camels make excellent therapy animals because of their sensitivity and perception, through serving of man for hundreds of years. Students who interact with Kubla, who haven't the strength to dress themselves or take care of their daily activities, comment about how empowering it is to have Kubla kush (lay down) beside their wheelchair.
